NEW ORLEANS, La. - After posting top five finishes and qualifying for the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, three UMES speedsters, Tanisha Wisdom, Merrecia James and Allodin Fothergill were all named to the All-Region team for the East Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). To be considered All-Region the student-athlete must place in the top eight of his/her respective event and that student-athlete's institution must be a current paid member of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. All three Hawks were in the top five of their respective events. Wisdom took fourth overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.71, setting a new school record and personal best. Not far behind in the same event on the men's side was Fothergill who was fifth overall. He ran 46.40, a time that beat out all MEAC, ACC, and SEC runners which is an impressive showing for the sophomore.
Also taking fifth place was James who posted a time of 2:07.30 in the 800-meter run. Her time was also a school record and personal best.
Wisdom, James, and Fothergill will continue on their paths to gain All-American status and possibly a National Championship when they travel to Drake University located in Des Moines, Iowa. The Division I National Championship will be held June 11-14. |
