         <description><![CDATA[In a year of much athletic success, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Department of Athletics has much to be proud of in terms of academic success. In two recent separate events, many Hawks were honored for their academic successes in the classroom. UMES recently hosted their annual Scholar's Luncheon where the department recognized those athletes who have had a lot of success academically while the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) recently released its All-Academic Team, featuring 40 student-athletes from UMES.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[It may not have been the results they hoped for but the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men and women's cross-country teams had solid showings at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional held this past weekend. The men's team took 24th overall while the women finished 21st. UMES, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champions for both men and women were the only full MEAC squads to compete in the regional.]]></description>

While many of the Hawk runners showed well the team's placing wasn't as good as it has been in past weeks when the team was at full strength. The men from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) took fifth place overall while the women came home in fourth place.]]></description>

A big part of that was Sophomore Peter Sang, who won the race with a time of 25:51.06 on the five mile course.          <description><![CDATA[Peter Sang was again the highest finisher for the Fighting Hawks Cross-Country team, this time taking the gold medal and winning the 2007 University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Cappy Anderson Invitational. Right behind him was teammate Amon Kiprotich and together they led the men's cross-country team to a first place finish. Merrecia James was also again the women's highest finisher as she took fifth place and led her Lady Hawks to the women's meet title in a tightly contested race.]]></description>
