April 1, 2008
DOVER, Del. - The Fighting Hawks played one of their most impressive matches of the season when they took on Wesley College in an exciting contest at the DuPont Tennis Courts. The Wolverines topped the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) 8-1, despite strong play from No. 1 singles player Rashad James who topped Ken Reilly 6-4, 6-1. James almost recorded another point at the top doubles spot. Along with teammate Dorian Thomas the duo fell to Andrew Smyth and Reilly 9-7. UMES also fell at the other two doubles spots but the second match between the Hawks' Harold Fowler and William Ntirenganya was also exciting before they fell to Wesley's Mickey DeSouza and Will Johnson 8-2. The two teams were matched fairly evenly in singles play as Thomas fell to DeSouza 6-3, 6-1 and Fowler to Adee Bautista 6-4, 6-4. Also playing fairly well were Ntirenganya at No. 4 singles, falling 6-1, 6-1 and Michael Davenport falling to Luke Melillo at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. UMES hopes to build on their momentum when they take on Mt. Saint Mary's on April 5. |
