YORK, Pa. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Tennis Team had their season debut at York College (Pa.) and fell to the Spartans 9-0. The undermanned Lady Hawks played well but the high winds were difficult to deal with for the visitors and the home team knew how to play them, picking up wins at all five singles and both doubles matches.

The most highly contested match of the day was at #2 singles when Bolanle Abioye fell to Amber Nelson 6-4, 6-2. Brigette Squire fell at #4 singles to Paige Doutrich 6-1, 6-0 while Fatoumata Ba fell at #1 singles to Keturah Buchanan by the same score.

Christine Bermudez and Whitney Pullen fell at #3 singles and #6 singles respectively by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action Ba and Abioye fell at #1 doubles to Amber Nelson and Buchanan 8-5 in a close contest while Squire and Bermudez fell to Doutrich and Stephanie Nelson 8-0.

Due to only five players UMES forfeited the #6 singles and #3 doubles.

The Lady Hawks are back in action on Friday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m. in a conference match against Howard.
